Tupac Shakur:
Wake Me When I’m Free
Experiential / Marketing / Film
A dream project two years in the making that taught us everything about the remarkable life of Tupac Shakur. An intimate collaboration with the Tupac Estate, and access to all of Tupac’s personal work and artifacts gave us the elements needed to create an immersive journey through Tupac’s life. We designed every inch of this museum, from the concept to the content, and kept Tupac’s message as the guiding force throughout.
Wake Me When I’m Free opened in Los Angeles, California in 2022.

The Tupac Estate had spent years working with various groups to develop a gallery or exhibit to honor the life of Tupac Shakur, however, they never fell in love with the concepts that were proposed. We were tasked with developing an idea that would go beyond the sensationalism of existing documentaries, films, and media footage of Tupac to inspire fans and educate today's youth.
-
As fans of Tupac, we immediately felt immense pressure to tell the holistic story of such a magnetic icon. We knew that to represent Tupac required us to fully understand him, and that meant absorbing every detail of his entire life. Ultimately, we created the concept of a modernized immersive museum that placed people in different stages of Tupac's life, and made him the tour guide with his narration.

We spent two years developing the concept and producing the first iteration of the museum, which required intimate weekly discussions with Tupac's family, researching his archives, and piecing the story chapter by chapter. As we developed each chapter we simultaneously designed the correlating portion of the museum and factored various senses and emotions that we wanted to trigger, which connected guests to Tupac's state of mind at that time. Additionally, we created a detailed 3D render of the developing museum in Unreal, which allowed us to walk the Estate through our vision in a striking representation of the real experience.
After two years of development the museum opened in Los Angeles in 2022. It will continue to travel across the US, Europe, Asia, and South America for the foreseeable future.
